Last weekend was my first photo meetup group that I put together, something that I always wanted to do for awhile but just never did. I basically just wanted to create a group of highly creative, fun, interesting and go-getter attitude people that all have one thing in common-photography! It doesn’t matter if you are just starting out, amateur or pro – the whole point would be to collaborate and meet other people that want to get the perfect lighting! Hence why I called it, Chasing Light 101 ! I also have a bunch of other ideas in mind such as holding workshops for affordable fees, pass on what I’ve learned and to create positive learning environments. In addition to visiting some really cool areas around town with unique perspectives. One thing I couldn’t ever get used to when being apart of other photo groups was that a lot of people just wanted to impress everyone else with the fancy equipment, brag on how much they spent or tell other people “how it’s done.” There is absolutely nothing positively accomplished with that attitude, just you coming off as a douche bag! When I see a lack of something being available, I want to be able to provide those missing elements. I know there are tons of people out there who are just like me, they enjoy photography but don’t want to be surrounded by that stuffy old energy. It’s all about positive vibes people!
SO as a result, I organized a meetup that was in an easily accessible location with an amazing view. Under the MacArthur bridge on Watson Island facing downtown Miami. It’s definitely one of my spots to shoot the sunsets. With close to 40 people that showed up, it was definitely a successful fun event.
I’m holding another one at sunset today, at the lighthouse in Key Biscayne Click Here to RSVP! It’s starting at 6:00PM and will be pretty short but I think it will be fun. With Hurricane Matthew stirring up trouble in the Carribean, we should have some really cool cloud coverage! Hope to see you there!
